My Windows Mobile does not sound alarms / my Windows Mobile alerts whenever it want to alert

Many of Windows Mobile users are suffering from different problems, related to clocks, alarms and reminders. This problem exists almost in all Windows Mobile systems (Windows Mobile 2003, WM5, WM6, etc).  Why this happens and how to take care on it?

There root of this problem is something called "Notification Queue". The main propose of it is to run tasks and activate alarms and reminders at scheduled times, particularly when the device is in standby or low power mode.  There are a lot of problems with this module – troubles with alarm and reminders, which not working, or, alternatively, playing not in time after device reboot.

There are some bugs, reported to Microsoft and one of topmost requests from the next version of Windows Mobile is to produce more reliable alarm clock.

For some reason, there is very little information about working with notifications queue in internet. There is absolutely no information about it in MSDN. And a lot of misinformation all over the network. I gathered up all I can from anywhere and now, I know what the cause for problems with alarms, alerts, notifications and reminders in Windows Mobile systems. I also learned how to fix it.

The root problem of notification queue is duplicate entries, produced by different applications, such as clock, ActiveSync, Alert, missed calls notifies and more. Windows mobile has no tools to treat this problem.

I build such tool and called it AlarmFixWM. It scans your Windows Mobile system for duplicate entries in notification queue and eliminate them. All you have to do, is do download it, put it into one of directories inside your mobile device (no installation), then run and hit Scan button. The program will do all the rest.

If you are not suffering from problem, related to Windows Mobile alerts, do not use this application.

I’d be happy to hear your feedbacks (also, if you want to learn more about this problem, you can ask me). And don’t forget to backup your device before using this program!

Are there other tools, doing the same work? Yes, there are two: MemMaid and SKTools. Both are commercial and doing much more (cleaning your device inside). If all you want, is to get rid of wrong or not occurred alarms, AlarmFixWM is all you need.

Does anyone know if there are any available software fixes or add-ons for VZ Smartphone 6900 which runs Win Mobile 6 and does not have any alarm feature to notify you when you’ve missed a call or a text message.

Please help!  This seems to be a major flaw in cell phone operations for this pricey phone!

In setting up my HTC Touch Cruise, I used Eastern USA as home and Jerusalem as visiting.   However, the time appears one later on the Jerusalem setting.   To solve this problem I have to set Athens and the city I’m visiting.   When I try correcting the time while set to Jerusalem, my Eastern USA time becomes one hour wrong.   There is I presume a patch to fix this problem but I have not been able to find it.

    Can you help?

    Many thanks

    Morton

It could be a problem of setting.

Check your mobile sounds setting, probably the problem is there.

    Hi Tamir,

I just bought an ASUS P527 WM6 phone, and am just loving it, but this alarm issue was becoming quite a nuisance. I was getting alarms 2-3 times in the morning, at times which I had set earlier alarms to. I used your lightweight utility, and BINGO! the problems are all history now!

Thanks for your help – Prashant.

I should probably say that my mobile device (HTC TyTN II) uses WM 6.0.  Whilst running the .exe I briefly noticed something of 113 notifications and then it requested me to restart.  This is SO frustrating …… can you please help?

    Should I run it again?

Most of the companies that are currently offering, or are in development of mobile image recognition technology for use on mobile phones uses a system that relies on linking image properties to a central database to relay content to the user. This works

I just woke up at 6.20am due to an alarm I have set weeks ago. It is extremely annoying when this happens. Your tool did not work. I used it, I soft reset my device and I have another alarm running at 6.35am from a week ago running right now. I have no alarms set. Screw Microsoft as far as I am concerned.

Can you provide the code? You mysteriously say, “There is absolutely no information about it in MSDN. And a lot of misinformation all over the network. I gathered up all I can from anywhere and now, I know what the cause for problems with alarms, alerts, notifications and reminders in Windows Mobile systems. I also learned how to fix it.”

But you don’t provide any hint as to how to fix it. I think it involves p/invoke on a few APIs, but you provide no hints.

    how about some code?

    Hi Tamir,

While surfing the internet for solution with notification queue in Windows mobile I found your site. I have strange and odd issues with reminders with my HD2. Finally I understood that that’s all coming from “wrong” notification queue. It may have some problems as you wrote in our article like duplicates and etc. But the main annoying problem is that some of calendar appointments and tasks do not get into the queue. Calendar and task manager perfectly displays appointments and tasks on the screen but as there are no notifications associated with them into queue there are no reminders and no alarms. Do you know how to solve the problem that not all calendar appointments get into the queue? Is there any soft which could resync the calendar with notification queue and restore the notification queue based on the calendar? Any other ideas/solutions how to fix that problem?

    Thanks a lot,
    Igor

P.S. You could write a PM to discuss any ideas.
