My posts issues

After a lot of calls and email, we made an agreement about how and what to write. I want to make statements clear – Microsoft does not moderate posts here. It does not matter, what platform I’m writing to. I never wrote illegal things, however, not every manager read whole post in order to understand what I’m writing about.

Here some examples

How to disable Exchange Security Policy for Windows Mobile Devices – keywords: “cancel autolock feature”, “bad for IT”, “disable Exchange security policy”. Well, when someone from IT department saw such post it reports everyone, who can do something in order to punish “devil hacker”, that make it possible. That’s their job to do. Strange, that when wrote How to set your mobile modem to work without dialer or Is UAC good for jews?- neither Orange, nor IT department had problems with it… The same story with Windows Vista 100% working Keygen – they understand, that it’s joke.

70-552 should be removed (or, at least changed) – keywords: “test framework from VS, ‘cos it’s really SUX”, “we never have bugs”, “exam should be removed”. In this case, MS learning, how paid me to build some of their exams, claims, that I’m “not loyal to examination quality”. They are right, I’m not. I know, that products, that I’m building are more qualitative, then other, due to fact, that I saw people, who prepare those exams, but are not really know real word problems. When writing it, I tried to focus to real world, but not academic problems.

Is it Dell in Israel or x5 prices of Dell accessories – keywords: “dell sucks”, “dell israel is thief”,  “Dell did not even poke a phone and never replies by emails”. Microsoft and Dell have agreement about pre installations (this is not secret), Microsoft does not want anyone to claim, that Dell is bad. I am. It does not matter, that Dell US and  Dell Israel are different companies, but still it’s bad, that someone writes about problems with Dell from microsoft’s domain.

WBXML support in C# or let’s make it smaller – keywords “WBXML”, “mobile”, “Exchange”. ActiveSync protocol (that uses WBXML format) is intellectual property of Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft sells rights to use it for big money. As I wrote earlier, it uses WBXML (which is open format), however, legal department does not really understand what is open is what is not. Thus they asked me how I got an information about ActiveSync. I’m not and I have no rights to do it. I just help others to understand WBXML.

Clipboard SetData / GetData troubles with VPC and TS – keywords: “.NET framework 2.0 source code”. The first question they asked me was: “How did you get source code of .NET framework?”. “By using Reflector”,- was my answer. It’s not loyal to your employer write, that there are bugs. (word loyalty second time). However there are a lot of people, who does not understand why it does not work – I just help them to understand why. BTW, the same issue was with this post and this one.

Vista drain a battery! and Vista Battery Saver is very useful – keywords: “Vista power management is bad”, “Vista drains your battery”. The questions were: how do you know what API to use (This is internal information), how did you measure it etc. My answer – read MSDN – everything is there. Thus I published all source code to prove, that it does not use internal interfaces. All my measurements were on my private machine. I never told, that it’s “academic” result. Next question was: when you have time to write software? My answer is: spare time. I love to write software and never charge anyone for my spare time. BTW, Internet Explorer 8 alpha screenshots are hoax as well, so I advice to read whole post before claiming anything.

Shame, shame you, Microsoft – no comments

Well, I’ll keep writing, and I already made statements clear. So the question is what do you think about those issues (tnx to Roy Osherove)?

I wasnt criticising SAP on SDN, I was actually saying SDN sucks on my personal blog :)

I dont know which rules Lior published and I guess that’s an internal Microsoft afair but we do have a blogging rules of engagement at SAP and I guess things are more strict here…

After all in enterprise software, unlike consumer software, there needs to be one voice facing customers (although some can argue against that too).

As long as there’s a clear line defined I’m fine with not crossing it (so I keep my resentments to SAP products\strategy internal for time being ;) )

    Thank you Eran.

SDN and here is different as well as MSFT and SAP are different companies.

I think, that rules (that we already know), Lior publish makes things much clear more for management, then for bloggers

I’m sorry but I had to pick the "both are barinless" option, mainly because its funny :)

But also because this entire thing just seems like a misunderstanding\miscommunication blown out of proportion…

There are worse Microsoft critics out there, the purpose of blogging is to start such conversations…  In fact, thats the main advantage Microsoft gets from supporting blogging…

I critisized SAP once (SDN to be exact) and got an angry reply from one of the managers – but it was on my blog – which makes it a legitimate reply in a coversation. Whatever our differences were at least these guys knew how to put it in proportions…
